Pocket projectors

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Remember when projectors used to be big, bulky, heavy machines that several people were needed to lift and transport them? Well, thankfully, projectors have now become much smaller, and now, you can even take some projectors anywhere.

Say hello to pocket projectors or pico projectors. These tiny little projectors can be brought virtually everywhere, and are usually held in the hand while projecting an image to a variety of surfaces such as walls, bookshelves, or any flat space.

The question is how effective and how good really are these tiny projectors? Most of them can only be used in a pitch black room…anything other than that and the images produced are basically washed out. There’s also a limit to the size of the images that these projectors can produce.

They are also still very expensive, and as such, it’s quite hard to justify purchasing one of these things especially in this economic climate.

Still, if you’re the type of person who wants to have a backup plan for when a regular projector fails, pico projectors could be very useful indeed.

Pico projectors currently available on the market include 3M’s MPro, Aiptek’s V10, Aaxatech’s P1, Optoma’s PK101, and Samsung’s phone/projector W7900.
